Does using the hand brake mess up your car at all? My hand brake doesn't lock the weels so I use it at red lights not to roll down and not to use my brakes all the time. Is it okay for the car or should i just use normal brake all the time
I can't see any problems with using the handbrake. In the UK we are advised, when stopping for more than just a moment, ie at trafficlights or stop signs, to apply the handbrake & select neutral (or P in an auto).
An annoyong problem with holding the car on the foot brake is that drivers (and more seriously, motorcyclists) stopped behind you can be dazzled by the rear brake lights, particularly if it's raining.
BTW You say the h/brake doesn't "lock the wheels". Will it hold the car on a steep hill? If not, you'd best get it seen to, either it's not adjusted properly or the pads are shot.

Use of the hand brake is almost essential to control startup of a manual transmission on a steep hill.
I don't see any problem w/ use as you described. Using hand brake to stopa movingvehicle would not illuminate the brake lights and would probably be illegal.
