I'm not really that familiar with the igniter since of my 3 cars, the only one that had a distributer was a 5-cyl Audi 100. I only had that tanker for 6 months.

I've just heard about them causing weird issues. You should be able to get the alt and battery tested for free from Sears Auto ..... I'd imagine Autozone, but there are none by me.

I highly suspect the coil though and I wouldn't be surprised if your battery is almost dead.

 

The battery is good.. (I think it is anyway) still has a nice green dot.. Anyway yea Ill have them tested thanks

 

A bad ignition coil did cause a tach flutter and engine miss on my 95 V6, but there were no headlight/electrical issues besides that. Plus the 95-97 V6 models were the only ones (to my kowledge) that the coil had some sort of control over the tach. That's why I haven't suggested a bad coil. You could always test the coil, however it may be hard to access.

 

It's some kind of isolation amplifier. The ECU sends a signal to the ignitor. Then the ignitor fires the coil to make the spark. I think the main job of the ignitor is to prevent voltage spikes (from the coil) from doing any damage to the ECU. Most cars have some sort of device like that; everyone calls it something different.

 

it all depends on the distributor on your car,, TEC distributor have an ignitor,, it is located on the outside of the distributor under a cover,, ( that's how 1 can tell which distr is which )

Hitachi distributor, on the other hand have a totally different set up,
it has a magnet set, stator and pick up coil inside the distributor,,

 

You got to love Honda for using 2 different brands for OEM parts[:@]
