head bolts

Default head bolts

do i need to replace head bolts on a 91 accord when changing head gaskets? manual says no. some people are telling me yes. head bolts are $120. would like some expert advice?

Inspect the bolts and replace if needed..the head bolts come in a set not as individual bolts, so if you have a bad one your going to have to buy a complete set anyways..

$120.00 is way to much...call AutoZone and see what they really cost...

do not replace the head bolts, it is ok to reuse them...............
i have done many head jobs and never replaced head bolts once ,just make sure to torque them properly, clean them before installing and apply a bit of oil on them

i appreciate the advice. manual said not to. mechanic friends said to. thats why i came here to get expert advice. i numbered each head bolt cleaned the threads with a die and oiled them and put them back in the same spot. torque back in sequence and in three stages like manual said. will start it later today. it is great to come here and get expert advice. once again greatly appreciated.

you are very welcome..........But just so you know,, you DO NOT have to reinstall the head bolts in the same spot as you took them out,, but in your case ( since you did not know ) it was good to be cautious ,, :-) .

in some year cars, some of the head bolts are of a different length , those you got to make sure to reinstall in the spot that you took them out of ..
