Default Headlight not bright any more

Hi, I noticed today that the headlights on my 2005 Accord LX are no longer bright and when driving on the dark road, I cannot see clearly and headlights are dimmer if looking at them, what is possible cause of this? I recently polish the headlight lenses and see big improvement on transparency and clearness on the lenses. Thx.

I've never heard of bulbs aging to a dimmer condition. If your battery voltage is low, the light brightness will be affected. However, you will have starting problems also.

If battery voltage is good, headlight bulbs are not terribly expensive, so perhaps replace one and see if it makes any difference.

good luck

Do your headlights brighten with increase in RPM? If not check the amps your alternator is putting out and if that is good check for a bad ground.

May just be the bulbs. Honda had a service bulletin regarding certain bulbs:

Honda TSB 08-010

If the bulbs dim with the engine running, it may be due to the the Electronic Load Detector (ELD) having faulty solder joints. But, that doesn't sound like what you're describing.

thanks redbull-1. I took out low beam bulbs and they match the potential faulty bulbs described in the bulletin and have them replaced with new Sylvania xtravision ones and will have them tested in next a couple of days. The second bulletin is also handy in case that the new ones not function as expected. High beam bulbs work fine on my car, only low beam ones have issue(oddly, I have not observed the issue before, only in recent 2 trips during the night, actually I have to turn on high beam on rural road on one of those trips otherwise, i can hardly see anything). Will report back the findings, thanks everybody for helping out.

Glad it worked out and THANK YOU for coming back with the "end of the story". Too many times we never know how it worked out.
