Exclamation Heater Hose

i noticed steam coming out from under the hood and found that the heater hose had busted. i was able to disconnect the hose from the firewall part but the other end that runs into the engine block i cant reach the spring clamp its right under the disesbitory cap/ spark plug wires. I was wounder how i can get to it? should i try removing the cap to access it or is there a trick i can try?

Thanks so much for this forum it has come in handy too many times to count.

Is this on a 72 Pinto?

No really, it sounds like an F-series engine. Prior to 1998 you should mark the distributor for spark timing (scribe a line across the distributor base & the head). Remove the distributor is pretty easy (3 bolts) then that hose is easier to reach?

Starting 1998 the spark timing is set by the crankshaft sensor and the distributor isn't adjustable by spinning. That makes it a bit easier.

The heater inlet hose is labeled, sounds like that's the one you're talking about?

I bet removing the distributor will make it easier to reach. 3 bolts & pull the distributor out from the head. Some oil will drip out, but not too much.

When putting the distributor back in, there's a blade on the end of the distributor shaft. Notice that it's off-center a little bit. Match the off-center slot in the end of the camshaft. It's possible to get it backwards, with a bit of hammering.

Think about a new O-ring for the distributor. With age & heat, those get hardened so when you put it back together it may leak oil.

I recently replaced my heater hose in my 94 Accord and had the exact same problem. i pulled the distributor, which allowed for easy access. I've heard that it can be done without pulling the distributor, but the hose was completely fused to the barb and I had to cut it in about 4 places to get it off. Just pull the distributor
