Default Help ! Crazy dip stick reading

I own a 2000 Honda Accord EX sedan 4 cylinder with A/T. I carefully checked my engine oil dip stick today. Level was low below the lower mark. So, I thought that I could safely add a quart of Pennzoil 5W/30 conventional oil to bring it up. After letting the car set I checked the oil level. Now the dipstick reading is above the upper mark ! What happened and is it safe to drive the car with this apparent overfill ? Thanks.P.S. it looks like the new level is approximately 3/8 inch above upper mark.

Did you check it more than once the first time? I always check it 3 times to make sure

What about the car being level?

A few mm above the top mark shouldn't matter much. How high is the level above the upper mark?

Probably more like a 1/2 or 1/3 quart over. He should have added a 1/2 quart then checked it, and added more if needed. At least that's how I do my wife's 2000 Accord LX with the 2.3L AT.
