Default Help with Drivers side Multi-plexer control unit?

For those with a higher level of enlightenment here is a question.

Car is a spare and has not been driven much except by the kids in the yard for the last 6 months or so. This morning I go to get in and go and the following won't work.

Brake pedal solenoid to release it from park
Speed Odometer/ Tachometer
Dash indicator lights (Annunciator lights)
None of the power windows
Dash Clock
Water temp gauge nor does the fan come unless you turn on A/C.

I checked fuses and R/R all of them just to stir any possible corrosion. Checked relays by R/R same as fuses. Consulted Chiltons manual and only thing I can come up with is Driver Side Multi Plex control unit. I pulled unit out and split case and see no obvious signs of a burned circuit board or smoked anything. As an electrical item priced at 100.00 I hate to order if not the fix.

Thanks in advance to all those who may respond. Merry Christmas!

If this is on the 96, here is where I'm going.

The key switch sends power to the fuse panel...the #1 fuse 10amp, gets power from here and then to the gauge. Verify power on both sides of that fuse with the key on....this fuse covers the gauge lights and drive for the speedo, tach, temp, ect going to the right in this pic

Well I missed it but the number 1 fuse was bad and replacing it indicates a dead short. It pops again as soon as power is applied. Now I am scratching my head as to where to start in chasing the short.

Well, I hate electrical things

I have that fuse running the gauge assy, back-up lights, clock, vss and shift lock....I also think there is a tie to the intergrated control unit (power windows and a few others).

Any work done on the car recently that might be related to anything listed?

No recent work done but the car has not been driven much for the last few months as its a spare. It popped 2 fuses 10A&15A as soon as power was applied so I ran into town bought some 40A&30A fuses thinking I may just smoke check the short. Well put the 40 in thinking if its a dead short the 40 will pop well it didn't so I put the 30 in same thing. I replaced with a 10A and wal-la it has not blown again. So I seem to have my favorite kind of electrical issue, Intermittent. I guess we'll see when it blows again. Maybe I'll put the 40 back in so I can trace it to whatever is on fire.

Thank your son for his service and sacrifice, From a grateful Patriot. I am sure you are very proud and rightfully so.

Yea, did I ever say I hate electrical things ....oh I did already.

It could be that some amount of water has gotten into "something" and once it dried out...life is good again?

You might think about a circuit breaker you can reset of the proper amp.

Out on a limb on this, just something to think about. Check the wires to the VSS on the trans....want to be sure some little critter didn't get hungry and chew on a wire or two.

Good luck and keep us posted on any updates or progress.
