I have a 1999 Honda Accord we are the second owners and have had the car for about 5 years and it has really low mileage of 61,000. The car has been well maintained without any major problems until yesterday. My son was driving the car and he called saying it was making lots of noise. We advised him to drive it to the Honda dealer we use for service and we were shocked with their estimate.
Turns out they said it needs a new transmission, both front axles replaced, new catalytic converter, idle control valve, front mount and battery. The repair bill would come to $4,820 complete.
We have maintained this car, brought it in for every inspection always did the recommended service and never had any problems.
I've always heard stories of Hondas with over 125,000 with no problems. So, please advise. Do we bite the bullet and repair the car, or just call it a day and use what would be the repair costs towards another used car.
Please advise soon, we have to make our decission by today. Thanks.

Wow, that sounds nasty. Welcome anyway!
This is really a Intro/Welcome section, so I'll move this post over to General Tech.
I'm guessing it's an automatic tranny? My preference is to use the money to buy a manual-tranny Honda. Those are bulletproof.
You might want to go to other shops, non-dealers that have Honda repair experience. Screen-name suggests you're from Miami, so hopefully someone will have suggestions.

i think that it must be slow time at the dealership........
like it was suggested, have another shop look at it preferably one that specializes on Hondas and not a dealership
