Default home made cold air intake

I have a 1988 honda accord Lxi, 5 spd with 249,000 miles, so I dont wanna do too much to it but I want it to be fast and zippy and sound good, how can I add a cold air intake for $40 or less, I wanna make it myself, could I get some detailed plans? thanks.

I doubt that you'll find plans, but all you have to do is copy the layout of an SRI for your car. A CAI will be harder since it has to get into the bumper area, but that's not too hard to do. If I were to take on your project, I'd build a convertable system where you could put the filter on the first half for SRI and if you want, build an extension to make it a CAI.

For a 4 cylinder, 2.5-3 inch filter and pipe is about right.

BTW - plan to spend that much on a new filter too. The cheap ebay one will work for a bit, but you should put a name brand filter on as soon as you can afford it to prevent damage from a bad filter.
