Default honda accord 1987

Ok i have an 87 accord and my car is idling at 2500rpm when its on park. I usually this happens when my car is cold and just needs to be warmed up. Usually when i rev the engine a couple of times the rpm will drop to normal. Now it just stays at 2500rpm. When i throw it into drive of course thers a big clunk and the car will drive 40 mph without me step on the gas at all. Im thinking its the carbeurator, being stuck open or something. What do you guys think?

Ok i took off my carbuerator and cleaned it up with wd-40 and put everything back. The car seems to be idling at around 700-800 rpm which is normal for my car. The problem now is that the would just die after 1min of driving it. Then i try to start it again, it starts up and just dies after 2 seconds of running. I wait until the car cools down and i can start it again and drive it for about 1min and it would die out again. anybody know a solution to my problem?

I have the same problem with my '88 Accord. The car will run at about 2500 RPM and occassionally run at normal RPM's.
Replace your PCV valve and see if that helps. I still need help on figurning out what is causing this intermittent high idle on my car. Is there a Fast Idle valve or something ? Need some help guys.

Default Carburetor Icing

I had the same problem with my 87 LX, turned out to be carburetor icing caused by a defective divert baffle on the horn of air cleaner. I fixed it with bailing wire so carb heat is always on in cold weather.

I know this is an old thread but maybe this might help someone.
