Default Honda Accord 2009

My most passed away and left her car. The pull cable on the gas and trunk release are broken. The key fobs won’t open it either. I have replaced the battery in the key fab. Help! I need to get rid of it so it doesn’t rot in my driveway.

Did the plastic part of the pull cable break or the cable itself?

Does the key fob lock and unlock the doors?

The cable is just broken, the plastic part is still in tact. The key fob will not do anything.

Sounds like you are dealing with two problems.

For the cable, when you push/pull the lever, is the lever stuck and not moving the cable, or is the cable snapped and you have zero resistance on the cable? There is a lock cylinder on that mechanism, so make sure the mechanism is not locked and preventing you from opening.

For the key fob issue, do the locks work from inside the car when you when you use the switches on the door?

The lock mechanism is also broken. It moves but doesn’t change anything.
The key fob won’t work at all. The door lock buttons and the window buttons work inside the car.

There is no resistance when you pull the gas or trunk latch.

For the mechanical trunk release, you either have a broken cable, the cable sleeve became detached at the trunk/fuel release, or maybe the cable is detached from the trunk latch. If you look in the owner's manual, your accord may have an emergency trunk release to get the trunk open, so you can look at the trunk latch/cable.

There are some youtube videos showing how to repair a broken sleeve at the trunk lever on the floor that might work on your accord. I think removing the trim will be similar, but the repair part I've seen may or may not work. The sleeve I see is either Fuel Door Release Repair Kit for Civic 2001-2005 White on Amazon or Dorman 924-275. You'll first need to inspect the cable to see if this is your problem.

For the fob, if you have a second key, try the second fob to see if it works. If not, the fob is either not working, needs programmed, or possibly the antenna where you insert the key/push start button is faulty. You'd need a good scanner to program, so maybe look for a locksmith to get it diagnosed/repaired/programmed.
