2009 Accord stolen without broken ignition?!
So my roommate just got his car back from the towed lot after it was stolen a few days ago. What surprises us is that there were no force entry and damage to the ignition. It seems like the thief have a copy of the key.
Anyone know how this is possible? I'm just stunned. The car came back intact with a few dents on the bumpers, trunk, a broken taillight and scratches from a swiping another car on the sides. Don't know if the thief was drunk but I'm coming to that conclusion because we live near a bar and there were broken beer bottles on our porch that morning.

Key made from his regular key by someone who had access to his key or someone who owned the car before just happend to know where to find it and took it for a joy ride ... Or something else again..

You can get a key made from Honda by the vin code im pretty sure. Cause every Vin is unique to every car. I not 100% but I'm almost positive. And your Vin number is right on your dash in plain sight from outside It might of been planned for a while. It usually take a while to get a vin key I'm pretty sure

I would hope before cutting a key from just the VIN they would ask for proof of ownership......then there is the whole thing with the immobilizer system where the key and pcm have to be programmed.....unless you use the parking brake by-pass, pretty sure the '09 have this by-pass

A key blank can be cut for the car based on the VIN's key code; but, like Poorman212 stated the PCM still needs to be programmed to accept the chip in the key fob due to the Immobilizer.
The Immobilizer brake code is only provided with proof of ownership; of course, unless someone knows someone that works for Honda. The brake code still needs a cut key. -- Could have been towed, someone that works at a dealership or knows someone that does, etc., etc.
