what does the KY KQ refer to in the service manuals ?

I don't think I've noticed that in the few shop manuals I've had. What's the context?

 

I am working on the cooling fan control at the top of the diagrams they have except KY KQ I have recently discovered what I think they are. area codes KA would be USA KQ Australia KY Arabian

Yes, now I remember seeing things like that in older EPC.

I think in USA cars, there were 4 distinctions. Automatic vs. manual transmission; then California vs. the rest of the country for emmissions. So I think it was KA, KM, etc. KA would have been automatic-transmission 49-state emmissions.
