I am having problems with my 1997 Honda Accord SiR V-tec 2.0L. Lacks power when taking off, and makes a pinking noise.

What could be the problem here? Any and all questions and solutions welcome

Is the Check Engine Light ever illuminated? Any recent work on spark plugs, timing belts, distributor?

Pinging can be caused by lack of EGR function, and blocked EGR manifold ports is a frequent cause of this problem. EGR manifold/ports can be removed and cleaned. However, this would not explain lack of acceleration.

could also be a broken cat, bent valve, valve out of adjustment, exhaust leak, shreaded belt, etc. Need more info here.

 

Three major items, timing too far advanced, bad gas and carboned up cylinders, do a SeaFoam induction and engine decarbonning through the intake manifold. Ask you parts store about SeaFoam.
