I put oil in my daughter's car but it turns out I put a little too much.

I put about 1/3 quart too much (about 1/4 inch over the max mark). Is this bad? Should I drain the oil a little so it is at the top of the mark on the dipstick?

If it not a big deal, then how much is too much, where I would need to drain the oil a bit?

 

I think you will be fine at that level. If the level gets too high, the crankshaft can start whisking the oil. I don't think you'll be near that level at 1/4 inch above the full mark.

 

In past I've had change places overfill my 4cyl Accord engines by about 3/4" on the dip stick. No bubbles nor excessive burning; no problem.
