i need help removing gas tank
#11
Although this thread is almost 2 years old, I figured I would post a reply on how to remove the gas tank on this car. I have the same gas leak problem but have not yet dropped the tank because of the amount of work involved. Book calls for 3.5 hours labor to replace tank.
1. Disconnect battery, release fuel pump pressure, drain tank etc...
2. Support car on jackstands or lift.
3. Disconnect exhaust at rear Catalytic Converter.
4. Disconnect rear suspension. (I think just removing shocks at top or bottom will work)
5. Disconnect rear brake lines.
6. Disconnect tank filler neck and fuel hoses.
6. Support tank and remove/lower rear-sub frame. Tank is strapped to subframe
8. Unstrap tank from subframe after lowering.
I've opened the sending unit cover in the trunk and no leaks can be seen. Not leaking from filler neck either. I dont have any check engine codes. The leak is definitely from tank top side and cannot see. Is it possible leak is from another top gasket? Is there any access to tank from under back seat?

Reviving old post since I had the same problem.
Here's what's involved in dropping the tank. My car is leaking from the top of the tank, down the middle front of the tank right between the subframe and tank. They say its a 3.5 hour job.

I removed the rear seat and cut a hole in the body close to suspected leak area. Found a rusted spot on top of fuel tank. They were pinhole leaks caused by moisture collecting in low areas of the top of tank. Cleaned and patched. No issues to date. Problem solved.
