This is the way I did it.

Things needed:

-Paper towels or shop towel for the coolant lines if they leak out the ends
-Brake or carberator cleaner

1. Take off the coolant hoses for the IACV. If your coolant hoses for the IACV are too hard to take off due to age or wear, then you're going to have to take off the FTIV first and then you'll be able to take the coolant hoses off of the IACV.

2. Just take it off, inspect how much gunk is on the screen and then spray and pray. Clean off the screen as best as can be.

3. Re-assemble like you dis-assembled it.

Anyone have a diagram for a 98 2.3L on where the IACV is or just a good explanation? My guess is the piece attached directly under the intake port on the TB?

look towards the firewall, behind the manifold and around by the intake.

Check DIY forum for guidance on IACV cleaning.

Use vise grips w/ hose liners on the grip face to pinch the hoses either side of the IACV. This will allow removal w/o significant loss of coolant.

Clean both sides of throttle plate and throttle bore around plate also.

good luck
