Default Idle adjustment screw loosens itself!!!

This has been an ongoing battle with my car. On my model there is a screw on the throttle body that allows for adjustment of the idle. I have reset it several times always following the proper instructions and after a few days of driving the screw begins to turn and my idle will eventually go up to around 1500 when warm with all accesories on. I'll reset back to around 800, which is nice and smooth and reduces idle noise a lot and less than a week later it's back to 1500.

I have considered two things:
The tape you use for plumbing (I think it's called teflon tape but don't quote me on that), but I don't know if I can get the screw all the way out
Threadlocker - I'm worried this might be a little messy and may stick to soon to properly adjust my idle

Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks, Travis

There'san O-ring around the adjustment screw (#1). A new O-ring should be tighter & hold the needle-screw in place.

If that doesn't work, put a drop of "Leak Lock" on the threads. It's a lot like the teflon tape that you mentioned, but it goes on as a liquid and never really hardens. It's meant for threaded refrigerant connections, but I use it on plumbingthreads all the time.

Or just use some non hardening gasket sealant on the idle screw threads (e.g. Permatex Aviation Gasket No3 or similar). Clean the threads first with throttle body cleaner.

I'll start with the replacing the seal, then see how that works out. Thanks!

Default re screw loose

I too was having problems with my idle screw moving and found out that it was just a rubber gasket. I was just going to put tool removable thread locker but didn't want to do that. I'm glad I found this thread. pic of the screw removed and the new green rubber gasket is holding great. no more idle problems. This is on a 95 Honda Accord LX

Thanks for followup and pic!

Those threads are non-tapered and w/o the oring friction there's nothing to hold plug in position.

good luck
