Default Idle Speed

Hello, about my 94 Honda Accord EX 4 Cylr. The Idle Speed is always stay above 1000 no matter how long and how far I drive it. I turned the Idle Speed Screw to the lowest but it still stays above 1000. Do you know what the problem is? It gets poor fuel economy as I told you on the other thread too. Please help.

You shouldn't have messed with the Idle screw!!! Try to get that back where it was, then look for air leaks and adjust your FITV.

Ok, I will try to get that back as soon as I can. But how can I look for air leaks and how can I adjust FITV? Actually, what is FITV what does it do? Please explain more detail because I only have a basic knowledge about car? Thanks in advance.

To check for a vacuum leak (air leak, call it what you will), you can first listen for any whistle coming from the engine bay while the engine is on. If you hear something, find out exactly where it is coming from. If it is a tube, spray it with some carb cleaner and see if the idle changes. If the idle changes, you've found your leak... Fix it.

If you don't hear anything whistly, you can spray carb cleaner on any and all connections between pipes and hope that you find it!

The FITV is a valve that causes your engine to idle fast when it is cold. It does this by causing a controlled air leak when the coolant is cold. If it is too loose, it can potentially leak air at all times. There are about a billion thread that talk about tightening it. I'm not saying this is your problem, its just a hunch. Far more likely that you have a normal vacuum leak somewhere.

Ok, thank you so much for your help. I'll check it as soon as I can and then I'll be back here to let you know. Again, thanks.
