Car is 1999 accord with 2.3 and automatic. 230,000 miles.

Two weeks ago I replaced the thermostat due to it sticking open. And I replaced the temperature gauge sensor at the same time.

Immediately after the car had a lowered idle. It's progressively gotten worse and now the car idles at around 100 rpms. It has never done this until I switched the thermostat and sensor.

Distributor cap, rotor, wires and plugs are brand new. I just ordered a new iacv just in case. Any tips would be appreciated.

 

My advice would be to stop throwing parts at the problem and have it professionally diagnosed; it'll probably cost you less in the end.

 

Did you go with aftermarket parts? Do you still have the old sensor?

 

These parts weren't thrown at it. It needed all of them.

This is my back and forth car. If this problem didn't make the car so undriveable it wouldn't bother me

 

I'd have to look for the old sensor. I will try switching it back. The new parts are NOT a Honda part.

 

Is Check Engine Light On? You don't say but this is fastest way to begin diagnosis,..obtain the codes and post them here.

Idle speed is controlled by the idle air control valve (IACV). Suggest unplugging and checking whether idle changes. If no change, the IACV is not functioning. If no code for faulty IACV, then valve is likely blocked w/ dirt/grease. Clean check function w/ 12V directly applied to IACV connection.
