Poor battery connections might cause this problem rather than starter fault. Suggest removing connections, cleaning, and reinstalling securely.

good luck

Hey, I cleaned the battery connections out and the car started. I turned it off and the starter kept spinning again even without the key in the ignition and then the battery got drained again.

/bump I had replaced the ignition assembly and the original problem is persisting. The starter starts making noise the second the car gets charged even without the key in the ignition. Should I replace the starter or is it still a wiring problem?

The noise is like this @8:50
On his fourth click, his starter makes a whirring noise.

The starter signal wire (blk/wht) should not have 12V except when keyswitch is in Start position. You indicate that 12V persists constantly on blk/wht wire running the battery down.

Only reasons I can see cause this; faulty ignition switch assy (replaced), or faulty (shorted) starter relay (is this a manual which has a relay?), or faulty wiring w/ a short in blk/wht to a hot wire.

Put your accord details in your signature line.

good luck

How would I check if the starter signal wire is in the On position or Faulty?

Unbolt the connector to the blk/wht wire. Then turn on the key to see if the starter makes the same noise.

Is this the starter signal wire imgur: the simple image sharer ? They're all black wires. There's a skinnier wire right above it also, I'm not sure how to pull out.

edit: I had a buddy help me and he said I should get the starter out and checked and check the relays while I'm at it, so I'm going to go do that right now.

Where is the starter relay? I want to test it out but whenever I google 2002 honda accord relay, it only shows searches about the main relay. Also I've removed my starter using this guide
and had it tested at autozone where they said it was working perfectly. Also, I told the guy at AutoZone about the smoking and he said the starter may have burned a wire. Could a wire near the starter have been burned? I looked around and everything looked fine.

It is hard to tell from that picture, but in that video, the 10mm bolt he removes around 5 minutes and calls the signal wire is the one I was talking about. That is the wire you want to test for 12V.
