Default Intermittent dull knocking noise while driving...

So on the '95 Accord we started having a problem recently where when we're driving, randomly it sounds like the left-front wheel region makes knocking sounds with no rhythm, it can go knock three times quickly, stop then knock one, then stop and knock two more times. Sounds random, not high-pitch, not clicks and then it will go away. Almost sounds like someone left a bunch of metal weights and they're rolling around in the trunk. Once it goes away it doesn't happen for a while.

It happens for no reason I can tell, it's not like it happens when we're turning, or driving over bumps or when it's given gas. It just happens sometimes.

We had our mechanic take a look at it and he said there was nothing wrong. The noise was never there so I'm assuming this is not normal. Any ideas as to what this can be or where we can start looking? I'm trying to assess whether this be a "wheel fall off" kind of sign.

You will have to locate the source of the noise.
