Default Issues with factory alarm in 2004 Accord V6

Hello,

My 2004 Accord LX V6 with a factory alarm has developed a series of odd symptoms regarding the alarm after I did a little work on the car yesterday. First off, sorry if this has been asked and answered - I've searched the forum quite a bit and am finding similar behavior but I'm not able to find a thread describing the exact same thing I'm experiencing.

I'll start by describing the work: The knock sensor tripped the Check Engine Light. I bought a new sensor but not a new harness as local stores didn't have it in stock. When I moved the power steering pump out of the way so I could get to the sensor, I found the wire had been chewed through. The end nearest the sensor was very short - only about a centimeter of wire was left. Since I didn't have a new harness, I grabbed a bit of spare wire I had and spliced it together with two of those metal/plastic tubes that are used for joining wires. The plastic on the one nearest the sensor is touching the connector since the wire at that end was so short - I figured that wouldn't be a big deal since it's plastic. I replaced the sensor, put it all back together, and disconnected the battery for ~1 minute to clear the check engine light.

I finished that around noon yesterday, took the car for a drive, locked it up with the lock button on my key fob, and everything was fine until the car was driven someplace 1/2 an hour away. Note that it was unlocked/locked and driven with a different key, if that matters. About 2 hours after returning home, the alarm started sounding. I hit the unlock button on the first fob, locked it back up, and about 10 minutes later the alarm went off again. Unlock/Lock again, and again, 10 minutes later it was going off again.

It was the middle of the night at this point so I went out there to tinker with it to stop pissing off the neighbors, and I noticed that the lights were not blinking when I locked the car with the fob. They did blink when I unlocked the car, and if I pressed the lock button twice the horn would beep once at me as it's always done. Since it was late I emptied the car of it's valuables and left the car unlocked overnight.

In the morning, after reading something online about resetting the alarm by putting the key in the driver's side door, turning to Lock, then turning to Unlock, and then driving it for >10 minutes, I drove the car to work and when I got to the office I locked the doors with the key fob. The lights again did not blink like they usually do, and I found that the alarm was not arming - i.e., the red light on the instrument panel is not blinking. And it's been 4 hours now since I parked the car, and the alarm has not sounded, as expected since it's not armed. I just went out there a few minutes ago, got in the car, tried unsuccessfully to arm the alarm, and then when I exited the car I got a pretty big shock when touching the door. It wasn't exactly painful, but it was a significant discharge of, I guess, static electricity.

At this point it is no longer beeping on a second push of the Lock button, I imagine due to the fact that the alarm is not arming.

So I wonder if anyone has some advice on what I should do. In one sense, I'm fine with it just refusing to arm the alarm as that way it shouldn't go off randomly. But if it keeps shocking me and others when exiting the car, that will be a nuisance and seems like something that indicates a bigger problem.

Any assistance is appreciated.

It seems I overreacted about the shocking issue, as it hasn't happened since I mentioned it.
