i took the starter out and had autozone check it and they said it was fine,when i turn the key to the last position before starting it,it makes a humming sound and theres one click,then when i try to start it,it does the same a humming noise then 1 click?

 

Did you have the battery test while you were there....kind of sund like a bea/weak battery or loose/dirty connection.....buzz/humm and a click. Do you have a volt meter?

If so, what is the voltage at the large cable on the starter while trying to start it. The what is the voltage on the small wire while trying to start the car.

 

the po said it has to do something with the ignition switch,im gonna replace that and see what happens

 

ahh, I'm slow. We are having this discussion on two differnt forums....I thought I saw this somewhere.

Anyway. IMO, why replace the switch without testing the voltage at the starter? 5 minutes of testing saves the cost of the part and replacing it....

I have a 2007 Honda Accord. I think the starter is bad as the shop said hit was on its last legs a couple of years ago. I tested the battery, it measures 11.9 V with the lead disconnected. I would like to bypass the starter solenoid so I can take the car to the shop. How do I do that? I assume I connect a wire from the positive side of the battery to one of the leads on the starter- which lead do I connect to the battery?

 

Does the solenoid click when you try the starter? If it does, then jumpering the solenoid probably won't help. Try hitting the starter while someone holds the key to START. Sometimes that can work if the motor is the problem.

Otherwise, you'll need a real heavy wire like the battery cables. And you should put a switch in that wire, otherwise you'll make a bunch of sparks when you connect it.
