Default Just speed sensor problem? Or worse?

Hello, I might be buying a 1990 Accord from someone I know.. They are getting rid of it pretty cheap but let me know ahead of time that the speedometer started acting up a while ago. It works sometimes, but others it just stays at 0 and when it does stay at 0 the transmission S light flashes. They thought it was just a speedsensor problem but aren’t really sure.

Does that sound like just a speed sensor or could it be something more? If just a speed sensor is that an expensive fix?

Thanks!

Sounds like the speed sensor to me. Mine burnt out in my honda, so it seems to be a pretty common thing to go out.

Hi Member..

Has anyone thought of just checking the speed-o-meter cable to see if its cracked or even broken?

Check it out!

Mine does the same thing. I start it and start driving. The speedometer is at 0 and won't move. Then in about 2 or 3 minutes the green S starts flashing. Then about 2 minutes after that the check engine light comes on. I put a fire extinguisher in it just in case :-) I've replaced the TCU about a year ago. Any idears?

I would recomend, first, do what WheelBrokerAng suggested, simple first. It does sound as though the VSS is out and it seems to be pretty common after a certain amount of time. VSS replacement is not too hard it is just in a hard to reach area, but nothing that should discourage you. I'm not sure of the procedure on you model or if its universal on most models but I would wait and hear from someone with your same year accord advise you on what goes into it.
