Default Knocking noise

Hi All, I am new to the forum, I have a Honda Accord Aerodeck 2.0 LSi 1995 and I have notice a knocking noise when the engine is hot and has been running a while. When starting from cold there is no noise however after driving a while the noise returns. I am not sure what to do and or how to solve the problem. I would welcome any suggestions or help. Many thanks and a happy new year. SRK

I moved this into its own thread because it's really different from the one you posted in.

well, not much to go on - first question here would be oil:
enough of it, right viscosity? Yeah, you'd have checked ...

To check for rod bearing noise, lightly step on and off the gas to see if the knock changes.

your complaint is about an engine noise

I looked this up once. 75W-90 (or was it 80W-90?) tranny oil has kinda the same viscosity as 10w-40 motor oil; different scales, confusing.

I have '97 and a '92 Accords, 4 cylinders. I use 5W-30 engine oil in the engine.

You're using kinda 10W-40 in engine, but with tranny service designation.
Don't know if this is big enough difference to make noise over time...

I wouldn't use gear oil in the engine. There's a lot of different properties besides viscosity ranges.

Engines have a lot of sliding contact (journal bearings, piston rings). Meanwhile transmissions have more rolling contact (ball bearings & hypoid gear teeth). Engines have to deal with combustion products making the oil acidic, so there's additives to counteract that.
