Default Looking for Advice - New (to me) 1998 Accord Owner

I just bought my first Accord! I was looking at other vehicles and when I test drove the 1998 Accord LX, I really really liked it. My biggest concern is it had 137,000 miles on it. I would never consider buying a car with that many miles, but it drove so much better than all the others that I was looking at...and it looks nice too.

I was hoping experienced Honda Accord owners to give me advice on what to do and/or what to look for to make sure I can get the most mileage out of the car (certian issues I should for, specific maintenance I need to make sure I do, etc.) I am very good at doing the normal maintenance, brakes, oil changes, tires, but wanted to make sure I do not miss anything.

1998 Honda Accord 4Dr LX

Thanks!

Default 1st thing to do

I'm assuming it's an automatic? If so..I would drain the tranny fluid and refill it with Genuine Honda ATF. Thats the very first thing I did when I bought mine.

Try to find out if/when the timing belt was changed.

Good choice. I have a 95 LX. The mileage you mention is: "barely broke in". IF maintained - 300k is not a problem. yes, Honda tranny fluid and regular oil changes will give your ride a long life. If it has been taken care of, you are good.

There is the timing belt issue. I had mine done (dealership had a package deal -$$$) at 100K, I am now at 150k and running good. If you don't have service records, it might be your time for the timing belt, water pump, harmonic balancer belt, A/C belt and seals. etc. Good luck!
