Default LOSS OF POWER!!! 2003 Honda Accord

Ok. So I'm drivin on the highway doin about 80 mph. I gear down to 4th to overtake a vehicle. All of a sudden, my accord suddenly stops accelerating and slows down, with engine still on.(engine light came on) So I merge to slow lane and the car's RPM's won't go above 3000. When I try to go beyond 3000 rpm, the engine just kicks back and decelerates. I drove it like this, doing 35mph in 5th gear, to my mechanic. I shut off the car, wait 1 hour at garage for mechanic to show up, and when he does, I turn car back on and its running fine. The check engine light is off and no codes coming up. It hasn't done this since. Anyone out there experience this? I dont know what the heck it could be. Help!

mine did the same thing. i had like 180,000 miles at the time. i don't know exactly why it did that to me, but i think it was probably a sensor gone awry. when it limits the engine to 3000 rpm, it's because its trying to prevent the engine from damaging itself. i just turned it off and back on and it worked fine after that. it happened to me a couple of times after that, then after about 6 months the engine light just stayed on. turns out it was just an oxygen sensor going bad.

Same thing here except it will not go over 2000 rpm. It sat overnight and then everything was back to normal for about 3mi then all of a sudden it decellerates down to 1500 rpm with a slight miss in the firing. ????

If this is the same thing, get the codes. As both posters stated the CEL came on. This means the computer detected a fault and went into "limp" mode. Need to figure out what fault was detected.

Many stores will check these for free, get the actual codes and we can go from there......I say actual codes as some will give you their description of the issue - the code(s) should be "P" and four digits....like "P0420".
