Default 96 Honda accord power loss

I have been driving this car around town and it has a brand new battery in it. I parked it after driving around for quite awhile and now it won't start. There is no power at all. I attempted to jump and there was full power. I then metered the battery and that has full charge. When I jumped it I connected the - to the motor lift bracket. When I tried to start it, it clicks but that is it. Any suggestions?

Check all ends of both battery cables have clean connections and are properly tightened down. Use a 10mm socket (not boxed wrench) on the battery terminals to make sure they are tight. Check the two connections at the starter are clean and on tight.

Can this just happen all of a sudden with the cables? Is there possibly something in the starter that may be causing power shutoff? If I run a cable directly from the - on the battery to the lift bracket on the block all the power is resored but when I try to turn it over it just clicks.

Just clarify one thing for me. There is no power inside of the car when everything is hooked up normally? When you ground the - battery post, you have power inside of the car?

It looks like there was a loose connection at the battery, but once that was located, the engine would still not turn over, it would just click once. I jumpered the clutch/starter switch and the same results. I just kept turning the key and then it finally started. Would this lead you to believe that the starter should be replaced?

Starter contacts are cheap and easy to replace
