I'm back.....I have a 1992 Honda Accord Ex....with 225,365 Miles on it and in March I started having an intermittent problem with my p/s reservoir overflowing and it stopped doing it on it's own after a month......so I had my mechanic look at it and he couldn't find anything wrong with the p/s system,not with the pump or the o rings or the hoses or the rack......and this was in April...so last Friday June 5th ,I had strut rod bushings replaced and when I got home the p/ s reservoir was overflowing again.The overflowing problem happened the next day but hasn't happened since....I am scheduled to replace the P/ S Pump tomorrow and the fluid and the o-ring....but I don't know if it's the pump or not......How can my mechanic,without doing a pressure test or a vacuum test,determine what the cause of this problem really is?

 

Since it's not overfull iniitally, overflowing likely results from foaming of fluid when air is pulled in on suction inlet side of system.

Suggest replacing reservoir (fluid screen can get clogged and cause excess suction pressure in suction hose between reservoir and pump), and replacing suction hose (reservoir to pump). This hose may be hardened w/ age and allowing air into system around fittings.

Air enters because fluid pressure is less than ambient air pressure.

This is a common problem on later model accords where suction inlet fitting has an oring under the fitting. I don't think your 92 has this fitting, just a metal hose barb off the pump. If the metal hose barb can be removed from pump body, you should check for an oring seal. It looks to be pressed into pump body and probably not serviceable.
