Default Need Advice

i know this is general tech help but there was more people viewing. My 97 accord Was in an accident the other day i was stopped and got rear ended at 50 mph. pretty sure its totaled as parts of the dash came out and none of the gauges work. and the back doors wont open... so im on the market for a new Honda, i seen a 2001 coupe with the 2.3L auto but i keep reading that they are notorious for transmission problems. this one has 140,000 miles. i want all y'all to tell me if getting it would be a bad idea.

I would avoid the 98-02 accords with an automatic transmission. The V6 transmissions seem to have more problems, but I read about both V6 and I4 transmissions on here.

I haven't seen major problems on the 03+ or the pre-98 accords.

Ok, but what kind of problems are they known for?

My mom has a '00 Accord i4 with an auto. 110k miles, and the transmission already is starting to slip. Went downhill right after 100k. The car was never beaten on either, my grandma owned it before.

The problem is internal failure of the transmission.

Yes, they over heat due to a fluid control issue - there is a valve inside the trans that will stick. Once it does no fluid is flowing thru the trans cooler below ~1,200 rpm. So think about sitting at a light or heavy traffic and you have no cooling of the trans fluid....

As stated - if you want an auto trans, either 97 and older or 03 and newer. Just my opinion.

Yeah my friend as an 01 just fixed the transmission and it's already back in the shop, I found a 97 lx v6 I'm thinking about. How are those v6s anyway?

The v6 in that gen is a rare thing. Not too many of them around.

Nothing wrong with them or the trans.

Look around and compare a few different ones, then pick the one you like the best
