Default Need Help. Any suggestions??

my 98 accord 5 speed speedomenter sometimes doesnt work. When it doesnt work it idles rough. Sometimes dies. It also lacks power. Almost seems like down shifting when you let off the gas when it is in gear. Sometimes when it isnt working the temp gauge will also bounce. Peg hot and then go down to normal. Any clue as to what this could be? I dont see how it could be the speed sensor just cause i dont know how the speed sensor could cause the idling problem and the car lacking power. Please let me know if you have any suggestions... Any help is great.

Thanks.

Does the check engine light turn on or the D4 light start flashing?

Checked it lately to see if you have any additional codes along with the P1457?

(I agree EVAP leak won't cause your current problems)

P1457 is a leak in the EVAP system, it has nothing to do with the VSS.

Did you read error codes lately to see whether you have any more in addition to P1457?
P0500 would be a problem with VSS, on a manual-trans car.
(P1791=VSS for an auto-trans car)

If you don't read a P0500, then the ECU seems to be getting a good signal from the VSS. I'm pretty sure in 1998 the VSS signal doesn't go to the speedometer. The speedometer is driven directly by the ECU.
