Default Need help code po501 97 accord

I have code po501 on my 1997 Honda accord vehicle speed sensor A I have replaced my VSS with a new one straight from autozone duralast brand and it made my speed odometer not work at all and I’m getting code po501 still and it’s running terribly and stalling when I come to a stop before with the original sensor the car speedometer would work at first when it was cold then it would start going hay wire and stop working can anybody help me? I made sure I have the correct power coming through the connector as well. I’m 20 don’t know much trying to learn and money is pretty tight 1997 Honda accord vtec

It's possible the new vss is bad out of the box.

There is a plastic gear that normally sits in the transmission housing that you could have removed with the original vss. Watch some YouTube videos on Accord vss replacement, then check that the gear is in there

So yes I did change that gear as well the “gear” on my car is actually like a idk what to call it but it has wings on the bottom that slide into the transmission and a long part that pokes up into the sensor itself I assume this is what you mean by gear I made sure to replace it as well and it only goes in one way from what I could tell and I also assumed the first one was bad out of the box so I took it to autozone and got them to give me a replacement same brand an all just a new one to see if that one was bad out the box but I’m in the same boat with po501 and the car running poorly it is literally the only code I have po501 I also made sure I checked the wiring 5 volts at the orange 12 at the red main and ground is grounding good I really don’t know what to do at this point all my research points towards the VSS, faulty reluctor ring which idk how the hell or where that is or a Faulty wheel speed sensor

I'm oot and don't have access to my shop manuals. On most sensors, the sensor, the wiring, the signal, or the PCM is the root cause. An OBD2 scanner that can read live data should give you the vss signal seen by the PCM. The vss data should give you direction on what to test next.

Merry Christmas!!! Anyhow I checked the wiring have 5 volts from orange 12 at main wire and apprlarentky that how it supposed to be 5&12 good ground I made sure it’s not the sensor went through 3 sensors I captured live data of vehicle speed and what ever I do no matter what the graph doesn’t move a lick no signal at all from the VSS not working at all from what the live data says and that’s with the 3rd new sensor just been teasing them out at autozone… so this is where im at the code po501 still persist it’s the only code I have on the car for CEL replace sensor it’s good wiring good no fuses are blown or anything but my car is definitely running bad even at idle it’s like it’s misfiring every few minutes but no code what so ever. The car runs bad barely make it out the drive way does any of this sound like PCM? Or what do you think

From a web search it is common for the VSS connector to be bad.

I’ve done all the research I can do lol with out messing with PCM I’ve changed the sensor 3 times I changed the connector made sure the connector has power and good ground which it does 12 volts on yellow wire 5 bolts on orange wire and ground is grounding. I may wind up checking out the computer but I wasn’t really trying to do that but hey you only learn one way lol merry Christmas thanks for replying also made sure to check live data gong to the sensor and there is 0 live data from the sensor to ECM
