My fuel pump symptoms were similar. It seemed to happen when car cabin temps were high and car parked in sun. That's why I tried MFR fixes for so long before determining that fuel pump was failing to engage. I made some faulty diagnoses of no power to the fuel pump by forgetting that ECU shuts off fuel pump after 2-3 secs if starter is not engaged. It was only my tell-tale light that finally proved that fuel pump was getting power and no pump action.
