Need help identifying part honda 1993 accord power steering line is leaking
I just got home from a mechanics shop. They showed me which line is leaking. The only problem is they are trying to tell me they want to charge me $175 for this part. But they wont tell me the exact name of the part. Just that it's a pressure power steering line. That doesn't help. But I got a picture of what part it is. And which part they repaired in the past. The problem is it cost $250 for a whole new power steering rack. The problem of doing that is the labor. But the problem isn't the labor. It's the price of the part. But I can't figure out what part number it is. I do have a picture of the part that the replaced. And I have the chart which part they replaced in the past. Next to the other 3 other parts that were replaced. They say they can replace this part but if the other two go bad. They can't create this part and it can't replaced. But anyways, I want to focus on the part I should be replacing now. Because the power steering is squealing because of air in the line and I have to replace the part. Otherwise I have to continue refill power steering fluid.
Anyways, here is the picture of the part that is leaking. Alright here are the pictures. Let's see if you can help me identify the exact part number:
This is the one that claims that leak. The grey one is the one they already replaced. The black one circle is one that needs to be replaced. The one I circled is the one that I think needs to be replaced. I don't know if it's return line or which one it is.
I think it might be part 22.
Honda 53737-SM4-010
Tube, Combination Pipe Return but I'm not sure? Is it?
It could be #22. It is really hard to tell from your picture. I'd suggest following that line up towards the power steering pump and see if #50 bolts into it.

Thanks, I'll try that. And I'll see if I can get another quote from another mechanic. Because if I can't find the part, there is no way I can do this. And a while back the mechanic replaced 8 (the grey line), which is a shorter line. And I know, why the price might be higher because it's bigger. I'm just having a hard time understanding they are claiming they can get that part from $175.00. But I can't find the part myself.
I just can't find where I found that original chart on hondpartsnow. Where they included what's on the bottom of the car. Although I found the chart that showed where part 22 is going to the top.
Well, I followed the line up from the bottom. Put a piece of tape as far as I could get it and even a clamp and tried to move it up far as I could. It gets stuck probably on some kind of mounting point. It was very hard to see. I had to really visualize where it connects to. The power steering line connects to a bigger rubber hose. And when I could really visualize it and try to move things out of the way. The hose connects to the power steering pump and not the reservoir.
I don't know if the chart was wrong or if I visualized it to be the wrong line on the chart.
Anyways, it seems to be called the power steering pressure hose on rock auto. They sell 4 different brands on this part. They have a chart on gates 367510.
The other 2 power steering lines on the bottom are return lines according to this chart. I bought the SUNSONG 3401450 because it looked more similar in the picture to what is attached to my power steering pump. The only thing is, I hope it's the right part. And I'm thinking maybe I can replace the part myself. I think some mechanics wont accept parts that you buy and then do the job. But maybe another mechanic would do it. I'll look around but I don't think there is a video on how to replace this on my year of the accord. Just a 1994.
I'm thinking the return lines don't have much pressure as the line that I'm going to replace. I wouldn't know what to do with those other two lines if they went if there was no replacement parts. But I guess I'll worry about one thing at a time. Okay that's if this chart is accurate about those other lines. It does say typical honda system. But that might not be my system. It's just that other chart didn't make sense either. It shows the grey hose I had a mechanic put in as a replacement and it shows the 3 lines that I saw. But on the left it shows the hose that connects to the power steering which doesn't show it anywhere near it. The point is, I wanted to visualize the actual part and see where it actually goes. And I'm glad I did that, I just wish these charts would match up.
And it does kind of make sense that must be the part the mechanics are talking about because those two other lines don't have any parts to be even found as return hoses. Although it's weird that that they don't want to sell these two parts or make them anymore???
I didn't mean to start this job today. But it finally went when I had someone disconnect the green power connector. And disconnected the 2nd bracket (rubber bracket). After that I started the car and the leak ran like crazy. Disconnecting the the connector to the gear box on the steering rack proved to be a little hard. The bolt was rounded. Luckily I had someone able to grip a vice gripe to it with teeth, Provide some leverage and it finally turned out (Probably could have been disconnected with a special stripped bolt extraction kit as well). Then I removed the 2 bolts that the line connected to the power steering pump. I couldn't pull it out just yet. There was another useless bracket connected to a bolt (near the top). Now for some reason, I couldn't get a 10mm socket on it and it just wouldn't go snug in. I tried getting it from the below the car with 10mm 12 point socket. It seemed as though it could tighten it from that angle but not loosen. Anyways, I finally gave up trying and just had someone else just break the mounting clamp with a flat head and a hammer. I couldn't get a cutting tool to cut at that angle as it was too risky. (too close to the power harness cables and not to mention other hoses)
Yeah, I had someone help me out with most of this. I was kind of in a rush to go get power steering fluid and get supplies.. Anyways, it's a doable job, I just need to install the new part. Now all that's left is to take the green connector from the old part and bolt it in the new part. Feed it in from the top. Connect the green connector, connect it from the bottom and then connect it from the top.
And apparently, I'm not sure on this part. But, I think there is suppose to be washer on the line that connects to the gear box below the car. I just hope that's correct and it doesn't start leaking. It was just so annoying that there was a clamp near the top with an annoying bolt. I'll let you guys know if I run into anymore problems. I'm not really sure why there is a power connector connected to this line.
You know it's kind of funny I could drive around a car like this, hitting bumps, rail road tracks, etc. And it didn't turn it into a major leak. But finally when you go to remove the brackets. That's it, it gave up? Car logic, right LOL? Well, it's better that it happens at home than while I'm driving.
