Default New car for me!

Good day all...after writing off my 01 (who would have thought that a deer could do 10k in damage) I just bought an 04, 2.4L 5 speed...I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow. Can someone tell me what the timing belt interval is on the new 2.4? The salesman tells me that this is now a non-interference engine...is this really true? Sounds funny to me as honda has never built a non-interference 4 cyl that I know of. Thanks guys!

Regards,
Mark

no timing belt. that engine has a timing chain. no need to ever mess with it.

I know this is a really old thread but i am a new Honda Accord owner (04' V6 Cpe), and had an issue with the timing belt on my 95 Civic. I have been conflicting comments as to whether the car i have is a timing belt or chain? If it is a belt when is a change recommended (not dealer recommended, but those with EXPERIENCE please).
Thank you!

The 4-cylinder engine went to a chain beginning in 2003.
The V-6 engine still has a belt (I think still to this day?).

Most of us will probably agree with the owners manual interval of something like 100k miles or ??? years. It's a probability game. Out of a million cars, a bunch of belts will start failing around 100k miles. A few belts will last a LOT longer, maybe 160k miles. Everyone else is somewhere in between.

HOW LUCKY DO YA FEEL? It's an interference engine, so a broken belt will demonstrate that 2 parts can't be in the same place at the same time.

AccordCpeOwner:
If an engine has a metal sealed (sealing engine oil) front timing cover it is usually a timing chain motor.

Thanks for the advice. I don't feel lucky when it comes to cars! I just had my Civic's transmission (manual) go at only 153K! The Accord has 90K, and i don't want to experience the same problems. I plan on taking care of this one!

I will look into taking care of it SOON!
Thank you,
