Default New manual tranny owner, a few clutch questions

Well I just bought a 99 sedan with a 5 speed in it. I don't think the clutch has ever been changed and it has 170k on it.

Here's my issue: I can't accelerate too fast in 3 or 4 gear because the clutch will slip, 1 and 2 are fine. If I'm cruising at 70 MPH in 5th gear and I give it some gas I can rev the engine to 5k without gaining much speed. Sounds like the clutch is going out to me.

I have already tried adjusting the clutch peddle free play and it's okay, is there anything else I should look at?

I'm planning on buying a Fidanza 3.2 Kevlar clutch, do I need to resurface or replace the flywheel? For resurfacing do I need to machine it or can I just remove the glaze by hand? (I read somewhere that Honda flywheels have a concave flywheel design and can't be machined like an ordinary clutch...)

Thanks for the input guys!

yea your driven disk sounds shot. time for a clutch. the flywheel needs to be machined. also the bolts that hold the flywheel on have thread lock on them ( and youll want to put a fresh coat on them when you put it back in ) so bring your a game. the special crank pulley wrench will work perfectly.

I'd probably replace the flywheel. Probably won't cost much more than machining the old one, plus it will give you some peace of mind...
