Default New member with a problem in Brevard Co., Florida

Hello, all! I'm a new member of the forum, hoping to get some help with my 2005 Accord.

About the car: 2005 Honda Accord EX V6, 103K miles, automatic transmission. Up until last month, it was my parents' car. My dad bought it as a certified pre-owned in 2009. When Dad passed away in 2011, it became my mother's car. It's had regular oil changes and all its scheduled services, including timing belt. It recently got a new steering pump, and I had the oil and transmission fluid changed in January, when she decided to give up driving and gave the car to me.

The problem is a knocking/tapping sound coming from the engine when the car is cold. It gradually goes away and is pretty much gone when the car is completely warmed up. I can't tell if it's just valve noise that would be taken care of by a valve adjustment, or if it's something more serious, like a rod/bearing. I took it to a local guy who came highly recommended, but all he did was change the oil. He told me that took care of it, but when we picked up the car, the noise was still there.

I don't really expect anyone to diagnose the problem on a forum. What I'm really looking for are recommendations for a good place to take the car. I don't have much experience with Hondas, so I don't know if I can trust the local dealers, or if there's an independent shop I can take it to that's trustworthy.

Would appreciate any advice, either about the noise or about where to take it. I'm hoping to keep the car and put at least another 100K on it.

I'd find a competent Honda mechanic and have the valve adjustment looked at.

Welcome to the forum. You need a Honda dealer or mechanic that is very familiar with Hondas. That's your best bet for a good diagnosis. I can tell you from here without even looking that an oil change isn't going to help.

I live in Brevard County as well. I've got a Honda mechanic that knows hondas inside and out. Check out Dieselz motorsports in Palm Bay. 321-482-7366. Let him know David with the cb7 sent you.
