Default new owner looking for some help...95 accord

hey everyone. im new to this forum and new to hondas in general, so im sorry if im in the wrong section or askin an obvious question. im very mechanically inclined and really want to learn about this honda pretty well, hope you guys can help!

ok well i just got a 95 accord 4 door with a 2.2L engine. i was wondering if i could get some basic info about it like how much oil does it hold, spark plug gap, and whats hondas technical name for this engine??

also what are some common upgrades, i saw something from msd to bring the coil out of the distributor... what do u guys think?? is there any major bottle necks in this engine?? (poor air flow, weak ignition.. ect) and what is the best way of fixing them??

thanks for all the help in advance! i really appreciate it

For fluid capacities, check the owner's manual. Or check it on-line with www.ahm-ownerlink.com where you can use your VIN to see all kinds of specs & view an on-line owner's manual.

Probably 4.5 qt oil

Your engine code (F22 something...) is stamped on the side of the block. Look to the side of the exhaust manifold, near the split between the block & the tranny/bellhousing. First line is engine type, 2nd line is engine serial #.

Seems to me that coil& ignition isn't a bottleneck until you do some major other work. Cams? Engine mgmt? Lots of others around here can help you better than me.

There is a free pdf of a shop manual for a 94 accord in the DIY section. It is under acc 5th gen.... The manual is split into chapters of the bottom of that dhost page. It will have all of that basic info. for you.

Overall the F22B# (# = 1 for EX, 2 for LX/DX) is pretty solid. The LX/DX engines have the coil outside of the distributor. The EX has the internal coil.

As for common problems.

The EGR ports get plugged up over time, but are pretty simple to clean out. Google T2T013.pdf and the last two pages have the procedure your generation accord.

If you are not sure about the routine manintenance items, I would replace the spark plugs (only use NGK OEM plugs), dist. cap, rotor, and air filter. If you decide to get spark plug wires, get them from the dealership or get NGK wires.

You will learn eventually that changing the front brake rotors on those accords is a pain in the a$$, because the rotor is behind the hub. Just be aware that it isn't a simple as removing two screws and sliding the rotor off of the hub if you plan on replacing them.

thanks for the help PAhonda for the help. i already got fuel and air filter, im goin to install them tomorrow. ill probably do wires plugs cap and rotor also. i would also like to get to the EGR valves and clean them out.

now in your opinion, should i just take the EGR valve out or keep it in? on all my old cars i just remove it, but these cars are from the 80's and really arent useful. do these newer engines require it?

I'm pretty sure they require it, but don't quote me on that. I have never heard of anyone removing it before. Just cleaning the ports.

I would clean the ports. If you have emissions testing in your state, EGR remove will increase the NO levels above the allowed limit. Plus you will have a check engine light on all of the time.
