Default newbie here with a accord question

Hello

My wife and I just got a 96 Honda Accord. It is 4 door 4cyl and 300K. It was a good price and really good condition. Plus the prev owner had kept all records and we got with the car. Ive only noticed two issues that concern me. 1 the steering wheel vibrates at hwy speed. But the car still holds steady so I didnt think it was alinement. What could this be? And tonight the check engine light cam on. The car ran fine tho. What could that be?

thanks

Mike

There are many different possibility's. Start simple. Usually this is caused by an imbalanced tire(s). Wouldn't hurt to go get them balanced even if it's not the fix. Check for any missing wheel weights(outside and inside) along the rim. Look for any clean spots(approx 1" give or take) around the rim of the wheels. Turn the steering wheel all the way to one side and the other to look inside. Also, check for mud build up inside the wheels. Check for any physical damage to the wheel and tire as well.
Look at and feel all the tires. Check for bulge spots or uneven wear.

As far as the Check Engine Light, go to your local auto parts store. They will read the code off the vehicle that triggered the light. It will be free. Report back here with the code they gave you.
Good luck

The only thing I would add, inspect the tie rods (inner and outer) for wear.

Thanks guys. I got it checked. The light is just a purge solenoid. Doesnt effect driving at all. Just have to fix it before emissions next year. I'm getting the tire balance and alinement checked I really think thats it.

It would help to get the actual error-code number. Not just the description of "purge valve".

Sorry. The code is P0441. I was told that its nothing to worry about until its time for emissions.

I got the Vibration fixed. I got the tires balanced and they noticed on the tired that was shaking that the edges of the hub where rough. So he sanded it down and said it will be fine. Now its running smooth as silk.

Good to hear!! ...as far as the P0441. I believe that code can mean a variety of issues. I don't know a whole lot about it. It could be only the purge control solenoid/valve. But, I would look at all the emission related vacuum hoses checking for cracks.(vacuum leaks) Maybe have a "smoke test" done on it. ...could it just be the gas cap wasn't put back on properly or not sealing??? not sure on that one though. Evap codes can be tough. I would think a tech with the proper testing procedure may be you best bet. Instead of replacing parts that may not solve the issue. But, then again there are some very knowledgeable folks on this forum. WAY more than myself! Good luck.
