Default Newbie needs help

Hey all I am new here and need some info. My son is in the process of buying a 99 Accord. My buddie that has it says it has a starting problem. It might go a day or might go a week but it will all of a sudden crank over good and not start and then you try again a couple minutes later and it will fire right up. Do you guys have any ideas on what we should be looking for or what to check. Other than that the car is in good shape inside and out. My buddie only wants 1500 for it, is that a fair price. It is a 2 door black with a sun roof, has a six cylinder engine in it and a little over 100,00 on the clock Thanks for any help Dave C

There are a lot of causes but you'd have to find out if it's getting spark and fuel before you can determine what might be causing it.

Don't throw money at it, you must approach it in a problem solvers way.

Between the two categories there are a bunch of causes that can lead to either no fuel or no spark, including plug wires, coils, igniter, main relay and your car may have multiple coils, etcetera. I'm not sure if he's going to let you diagnose before buying because then he might be able to raise the price.

I'll let the more experienced people here tell you how much the car is worth and whether it's a good idea to buy it based on the probability that it will be easy to fix the intermittent no start.

It doesn't seem like a bad price, but be warned that the 98-02 automatic transmission had severe issue especially the V6s. They fail.........often and there isnt much you can do to prevent it.
