Default Not sure what to do

OK, here is the story. I have a 97 LX Sedan. It looks pretty good & interior is faded but in good shape. The car has 245K on it. I have no previous service records for this car. I know I should do the timiing belt. The engine does not seem to burn any oil but it does tick a little. I also need axles, oil tube/valve cover fix. Am I throwing away all that money on a car with too many miles? I know this is probably a subjective question but since I have never had a car with this many miles I am concerned. Also, money is very tight right now so I have to pick & choose my "battles". Thanks for any input.

I jsut did this on my 96 Accord with 190,000 miles on it. Had to have all the opil seals replaced and timing belt, due to oil was leaking on the timing belt. It was $1200.00 Remember to do the water pump with the timing belt as well.

totally agree. my 92 just passed 190k, and it runs great. you can easily get at least another 200,000 miles out of it if you take care of it, so yes spend the money to replace those and then keep regular maintenance on it and you will have no worries.

you can put off the axles for a while,, if t-belt is due you should do it , along with water pump, seals and outer belts,

the upper spark plug seals are real easy to do,, the lower rocker arm seals are a bit more difficult but easy as well...........seals are cheap 3-4 dollars each from the dealer

there is a write up on our DIY section to replace plug seals uppers and lowers

Thanks for all the input. My water pump is leaking so that will push the T-belt to the top of the list. I noticed this morning I was getting some smoke from the front of the car at stop lights so I may have anoother water leak. Too dark right now to check it out. (4:10PST) We will see. Thanks again.
