OBD1 Code 21 VTEC Solenoid Help
1994 EX 2.2L4 VTEC KAMT5 - Intermitent CEL getting more frequent laltey, flash code 21 for the VTEC Solenoid, does anyone know of any common concerns? Wiring or just component? Also, can this effect vavle timing and cause any engine damage? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you vtec solenoid is prob. bad. It does happen.
You won't damage anything. When vtec engages it locks your cam shaft into the vtec lob. On your engine you have a SOHC vtec set up. So at low rpms only one of you intake valves open all the way and the second vale only opens 1/4 of the way to crate the "swirl" effect. That how you get more low end tq and better gas millage.
So since vtec is not working your valve are operating like a non vtec head. Where both valves are opening up all the way.
I would check to make sure you don’t have a broken plug or any broken or spiced wires on your vtec solenoid and pressure switch. Check the stuff that is free be4 buying anything. Also check your oil. Sounds dumb but vtec won’t engage if your oil is low. Since vtec runs off oil pressure.
