Default oil chang einfo on new accord

I am new to this forum so please bare with me.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord with about 4900 miles on it. I was told by my salesman when I bought it and I think I also read it in the manuel, that you don't need to get your first oil change until 4800 miles. I took it in the other day to the dealership where I bought it and told the service tech guy that I thought I had 4800 miles. He said don't worry about an oil change until my computer says it is at 15%. I ask him even on the first one and he said yes.

Now I don't know if I should go ahead and get the first oil change or wait until it says 15%. It was at 50% when I first took it in.

I don't drive it that much. As you can see with 4900 miles on it and I got it in March. It's only been on one long drive to Tenn, other than that it's a city driver if that's makes a difference.

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

especially on a new engine, u want to do frequent changes because it is gettin broken in.
when u change the oil, look at it, and look at all of the metal shaving inside of it.

I recently had oil analyzed from my 07 Civic, which I let go till the monitor said 10%. Blackstone labs said I could have gone longer. So I guess Honda seems to have the oil-life calculations sorted out.

Check it out...

Ive also heard the factory-fill oil has a different package of additives & you should leave that in there for break-in.

So does that mean I should go ahead and get it changed before the 15% oil life?

Also, I don't get as good as gas mileage as I think I should. Could this be why? I'm only getting about 20mpg. I'm using the fuel W/O ethenol in it because I could tell a difference when I used the fuel WITH the ethenol. Not good at all!

Thanks!

An 89 Saab was the last time I did many frequent changes during break-in. They dont make em like they used to. Surface finish on cylinder walls & stuff is way WAY better these days.

I generally have changed more often than the ownersmanual says, sorta based on driving habits. Mostly rural driving, but I have always liked to use the FUN side of the tach...

Mostly 5000 mile oil changes (Castrol GTX)vs. the manual says 7500.

86 Jetta GLi didnt use oil when I sold it with 145k miles.
89 Saab 900 didnt use oil when we sold it with 220k.
95 Integra GSR same thing with 130k.
98 Accord inherited so I dont know how it was broken in. Still ran good.

2001 Saab 9³ Mobil1 5000 miles vs manual says 10k with semi-synth. More nervous with a turbo.

2003 Accord 4-cyl
7000 miles vs manual says 10k
This is the first car I did oil analysis & it was good.
Gonna start doing short city trips, so Ill probably go 5000.

2005 Saab 92x (WRX)
5000 miles vs 7500
Synthetic oil cause its a turbo.
Took a sample & waiting for the analysis results.

2007 Civic - my firstcar with the oil-life monitor.
So far Ive gone with the monitor 15%.
Analysis says I could go longer.

Just curious...how do you get your oil analyzed?

I'm not sure what to do because it will probably be at least another 2 or 3000 or more miles before I'm down to 15%. []

Go to www dot blackstone-labs dot com for details & to order a sample container. Theres a couple other places too... Maybe someone can tell ME the pros/cons of different places.

As you drain the oil you catch some in a little bottle. Mail it away (along with your credit card info...) Theres details on their web site. Theanalysis costs more than a gallon of oil, so Im not gonna do this EVERY time. Maybe every few years to learn about the general health of my engines.

Check out www dot bobistheoilguy dot com for more information than you ever dreamed possible. Those guys are hard-core aboutengine-oil.
