Default Oil Leak

Hi all.....Just found this forum and I think its great!! Just purchased A Honda Accord 1988 lxi 144k miles w/auto tranny. My question is the motor has A slight oil leak witch appears to be comming from were the oil filter is at. I replace the oil filter thinking it was A bad seal on the filter but still leaking...It look like maybe it might be commin from the oil pressure sending unit,or the base plate that the oil flter is connected too.Does anyone have any idea if I am correct or not?
Thanks guys for any info that you can give me...Have A great day!!

try wiping off any oil that's on there currently then startup the car and run it for however long it takes before the oil starts to leak, pop the hood and start from the top of the engine and work your way down until you see it and you should be able to locate the culprit, are you sure it's not excess oil from someone changing the filter?

Wipe it clean and start from scratch and you should be able to spot it

Default RE: Oil Leak

Ok I took my pressure washer and got all the oil off of the engine. I started it up and watched were the oil was comming out. It seems to be flowing from behind the base of the oil filter stand. It has three bolts, the oil sending unit and the filter all on this stand. My question is how difficult is it to take this base off and replace the gasket behind it?When I replace the gasket do I use silocone or just put the gasket on with nothing else. I am going to replace the oil sending unit also, do I use anything on the threads of the sending unit like the teflon tape?Any info would help....Thanks

oil filter housing gasket is not hard to replace,, use ultra flange sealant on the o-ring,, it is just like Honda-bond but a lot cheaper,
no need to use teflon tape on the sending unit threads ,, put some ultra flange is the threads as well .....that's what i have been using for years and never had an issue

hey deserthonda, i was wondering do you work at a dealer or just an independent shop? where are you from? i think i might need to take my car to you, i am planning to drive my 99 accord ex to 500,000 miles.

i went to the dealer out here and i saw there was this 86 accord 5 speed that had 500,000 miles. it even was repaired after a collision.

we had an 81 accord in the family, which was a great car as well.

also, if you do some searches on google you can find some interesting links. this guy was doing a project on 83 civics. i am an accord man all the way, but the new civics look good.

I just replaced the O ring on the oil filter stand. I can see the other O ring was flattened out and very hard. I noticed that it did not have any sealant on it what so ever. I removed the three 10 mm bolts, wiped everything down real good..I put the O ring back in the oil stand housing and place A little bit of new grease to hold the ring in place. I put it all back together, replaced the oil filter along with the sending unit and added some oil to it. Started it up and took it for A spin....
Checked it when I got back and it was all dry so far... Thanks Guys for all your help..
