Oil on Spark Plug Electrode
My brother and I were working on my 1994 Honda Accord EX, we pulled out one of the spark plugs and on one of them there was oil all over the bottom/threaded/electrode part of the plug, none on the top. He's thinking its valve seals however I'm seeing things online that the 2.2L 4 Cylinder VTEC/F22B1 engine does not have these but instead has metal tubes or something. There has been no smoke whatsoever coming from the car however the acceleration is very very bad until it hits around 2500 RPM and it drives almost normally, lots of backfiring when taking off from a stop. I'm in no way a car guy however I am learning so be easy with the jargon with me lol. Thoughts? I posted on another website and they said it might be the o-rings on the rocker arms however they edited it saying my car does not even have those.
If it looked like normal motor oil, the oil could have pooled on the top of the spark plug. When you unthreaded, the oil ran down the threads of the plug.
If this is the case, the 94 EX has a tube seal on the valve cover that is leaking. Remove the valve cover and replace the seals. Pay attention to which way the seal faces on the valve cover, because you'll intuitively want to install it upside down. The groove on the seal faces up towards the hood.
The 94 EX only had those seals and not the rocker arm o-rings.
