Default Oil on spark plugs

Hello everyone,

Thank you for checking this thread, I hope to find help for my engine's current issue as well as provide help to anyone with the same or similar.

I have a 1994 Accord LX F22B2 with an oil leak in two of my spark plug shafts. One is not as bad as the other so I'll only be providing pictures of one. First things first.

1. Here is the spark plug pulled. The heaviest oil located on the head when I pulled it, though there also was oil in the gap at the electrode as well. Sorry, I didn't think to take a picture before most of the oil made it to the towel.

2. This is the cable covered and laced with oil inside.

3. This is how the cable should look.

4. The unfortunate cylinder, oil is covering top to bottom.

5. Another look.

I've purchased new cables and spark plugs (I wanted to change both anyhow), but I'm not so keen on putting at least the new cables on if any of them will get oil on/in it.
Do any of you believe it could be the O-ring?
Possibly something else which I'm not considering?

Thank you again for checking this out.

It could be the primary O-gaskets which seal the valve cover to the spark plug tube, but could also be true o-rings under the rocker arm assemblies. Replacing these is more difficult but possible, if you are an experienced DIY'r.

You could try replacing the valve cover seals, but in a 94 Accord it is likely the orings beneath rockers are leaking as well.

Although visually unsightly, the oil generally does not cause misfire.

good luck

I have had the same issue with my 94 lx except mine is leaking in all 4 plug shafts. I have replaced the O-gaskets and valve cover seals twice now and the leak is still there. I'll have to try replacing the true o-rings. Thanks for the info.

I replaced the valve cover gasket and upper O-ring seals as well on my 97 Accord, but still get some oil build up on a few plugs. Rather than doing the lower seals, I just pull my plugs every 3 months or so for cleaning. This gives me an idea of how much oil is leaking by (which is not that bad) so for now I just monitor, but do not plan additional repairs.
