Default One last question (I swear it) HEADLIGHTS

Are the stock headlights in the 93 Accord coupe 55w/65w?? Autozone and Advance Auto websites don't agree..

If I have that much right, is it okay to put 65w bulbs into the low beams? Are the connectors the same? Will the wiring be okay with that?

Do they make a 60w? I'd like something right between the standard low beams and the high beams

Need a cheap $10+- bulb here. .

(My woman is half blind at night, and always tries to drive with the brights on .. and that is not good, because the police here get pretty upset. The lights seem to be aimed perfectly..)

Thanks.. I was wondering if I could find out what the socket type and connector type are and look a 60w up for it, then?

You may want to consider replacing the bulbs with Sylvania Silverstar replacements. Much better visibility and around $35/pr. Look on Amazon or Ebay for best prices...

Definitely want to upgrade when there's more money available!! That is a really good idea and won't cost a-lot!

I'm pretty sure the low beams are Sylvania 9006 .. but advanced auto website tried to sell me a 9005 as a low beam .. And why do they have a 9006 and 9006BP? Can anyone see a difference?

Now here's this guy on the reviews saying 9006 is high beam only..
Buy Sylvania Halogen Headlight 9006 at Advance Auto Parts

It says it's 55w

But he's saying "AAP sorts this one with both Low Beams and High Beams - but it is only a High Beam light!

The part where I had to return it to get the cheaper and smaller, correct light was a major PITA."

I want to get away with just replacing the one and definitely don't want to be one of those morons with two completely different headlights.. where one is twice as bright as the other

Edit: I think that guy is crazy. They low beams have to be the 9006 - right?

The 9005 is definately the high beam.
The 9006 is definately the low beam.

The only difference in part numbers are those that end with BP are in a "blister pack", which only refers to the way the bulbs are packaged. Same price, same bulb. I'm surprised they package them in different ways, but no difference in the bulb itself.

I honestly don't know if there is any physical difference in the bulb holder on the headlight or the bulb plug that would prevent you from using the higher power 9005 in the low beam 9006 socket. It would be pretty easy to just take you high beam bulb out and see if it inserts into the low beam socket. You would then see how much of a difference it makes as well.

You would be drawing a bit more power while on low beam and even high beam, because I believe both bulbs are on while on high beam. You'd be going from 110 watts stock on low, to 120 watts on low and from 240 watts on high, to 260 watts on high. I don't think that change should cause you any issues with alternator or voltage regulator/battery issues, but that would be the only potential impact, IMO. I suppose the headlight relays could be impacted, but again I don't think this is a drastic change and shouldn't have a serious impact on the car.

Will having a brighter bulb in the low beam socket make much difference in visibility? It has to be brighter, but a new bulb in itself will be brighter than one that is years old. They slowly get dimmer over their life span, so any time you replace one, it will be brighter than one that has years of burning on it.

The Silverstar's are brighter, but all higher output bulbs also have a reduced life span, so keep that in mind as well. If you do go with the Silverstars, I'd probably keep the old bulbs on hand to use temporarily if they do burn out. Very easy and quick to change, so not a big deal...

Ended up going with Buy Sylvania XtraVision TWIN Halogen Headlight 9005 XV/2 at Advance Auto Parts

"Xtra Vision"

It's one step above the cheapest and one step below the silver star .. They all three have the same wattage rating and "Lumens" rating, but I know there's a lot more to it than that

Does the silverstar color temp being 4000 instead of 3200 make it light things up a little better? I definitely didn't want the blue looking ones the kids have .... ha ha ha!!!

As an aside, the connectors for hi and lo are almost identical except for one extra plastic ridge .. two on the inside for the high beams instead of one for the low .. Not sure if it'd upset any relays or wiring or whatever else going up 10 or 20 watts.. that is 10% give or take, but I see what you're saying about it not seeming like much of a difference

Very happy with the xtravision, like you said the old ones weren't putting out what they're rated for anymore, and I found the low beams had two different brands of 51w and the high beams both had 55w bulbs in them .... Going from old 51/55 to new 55/65 is a HUGE difference

Now I have to convince her to let me aim them properly. They light up the road directly in front of the car. Trying to explain to her that it'd be nice to see a little more than 15' ahead of you is a good idea isn't going well. Sigh.

I installed a Sylvania Silverstar bulb in my motorcycle a few years ago. ..55watt.
No blue light, but a much whiter projection than stock and more broad beam as well.
