opening intake
Hi
i need to open my cars intake so that i can remove my starter. My starter is giving me troubles, i have to hammer it to get car started. It turns the engine but feels like powerless, then just hammer it to start then runs good for 2 days before needing hammer treatment. I have few questions
1 What are the precautions i should keep in mind before opening it? (i have hynes manual for instructions)
2 Is there any risk involved?
3 When i take my starter out is possible to get it fixed by greasing its spindle or replacing bushings?
4 Can wet solinoid terminal make it work bad?

RE: opening intake
Why would you have to take out the intake to remove the starter? The starter should be able to be removed by unhooking the battery, unbolting the two electrical connections to the starter. Unbolt the starter (two bolts). and move stuff around to take out the starter. Double check the Haynes manual to make sure that you are not doing unnecessary work.
When you say that you have to hammer the starter, do you literally mean that you have to hit the starter for it to work? If that is the case, you can replace the solenoid and copper contacts, and your problem should go away.
Good Luck.
