Opinions on buying a 2000 honda accord
Hi guys... i saw a 2000 honda accord ex v6 coupe it has 43000 miles (its very low)... i checked out with the carfax, things r fine, its a one owner car, as of now, the cost is $9500, i am yet to negotiate on that, the color is red, had some scraches, but no active dents... guys one thing i noticed is i get the extra sound when i push the acclerator, the owner said he had a air intake, so it gives the extra sound...let me if the extra sound is related to that... and he also has the blue head lights... is this good compared to the original headlights.
just let me know your opinions on this, whether the price is correct and whether i doing a correct thing, as i have seen the problem with transmission, the owner said he had no problem with it.
let me wait for your comments.... thanks.... hari

An intake will cause it to be much louder in the cabin when you're driving that stock. The trans is definitely an issue on those cars, so be careful there. When driving, try to notice whether it shifts abnormally hard or makes any kind of clunking noises. If it does, I would walk away from that one.
I wouldn't pay more than $8k for it. That's just my personal opinion.

I would suggest try test driving it again....make an appointment for lets say 1300 but then show up at 1245 or something. I know when I was having transmission problems once the car warmed up a bit it wouldn't slip as much. Maybe if you go earlier than the appointment time you can prevent them from driving it around before you get there and warming up the vehicle (i'm not saying there is a plm, but ya never know).
As for price check kbb. Try offering them low (fair) kbb private party price and then trying to negotiate somewhere between fair and good value price.
Do any maintenance records come with the car?

I'm not sure what more to add to 00AccordLX's post.... However, according to NADA guides that car (without the add for mileage) is worth $8,000.00 trade in value. There's almost a $2000.00 add for the mileage being so low. I'd say $8500 to $9000 is a fair price if the tranny sounds normal, try to find a realativly steep hill and stop at the base, then floor it and see/listen to how it shifts (roll down your windows and listen)

No matter what the car looks like or what the previous owner says about the car,,,,,,
WHEN buying a used car , take it to a shop and have it checked out, A shop that specializes in that type of car ,, DO NOT take that Honda to Joe Blow donw the road, or pep boys, midas , etc etc ask for ,( what is called a buyer's inspection ) it might cose you 60-80 dollars but i guarantee it will be the best 60-80 dollars that you will ever spend ..
